1.Case study (15 marks)

Assume that you have been appointed as a Chief Knowledge Officer in one of the leading investment firms (Australian Investment Ltd.) of Australia to accomplish a project which is to develop a knowledge base guide for employees of the firm. Your task would be to develop a Knowledge Management solution for the firm specially for the employees of the sales team in relation to following requirements and issues.

Australian Investment Ltd is having the sales team but it is found that few sales team members are not able to retain their customers and because of which the firm is facing many issues in relation to return on the investment of the customers. Also, it is found that it is hard for the few sales team members to get new customers for the investment. Further, the firm is in need to have a knowledge management solution which can overcome issues like knowledge sharing / knowledge transfer using capturing and codifying the knowledge of the efficient sales team members.

So that knowledge sharing / knowledge transfer can be happened between the sales team members to overcome the problem of retaining the existing customers and in getting new customers for the investment.

Q.1) a. Discuss and justify in detail about a capturing strategy that you will use while capturing tacit and explicit knowledge with respect to getting new customers and retaining existing customers. In your opinion, while capturing knowledge, will your approach be different for the sales team members who are facing the problem in getting new customers and/or in retaining the existing customers? Justify your answer. (5 Marks)

Q.1) b. Discuss about major obstacles you might face while capturing tacit and explicit knowledge related to a given case study. Also, discuss about the best capturing technique which can be used to capture knowledge while considering the obstacles discussed by you.

Q.2) Management has requested to codify the captured knowledge into Decision Tree and asked you to come up with a report having pros and cons of using Decision Tree to codify knowledge. Also, he requested you to come up with an example of knowledge codified in the decision tree with respect to the problem given in the case study. (5 Marks)

2. Research Report and Presentation Instructions: These instructions apply to both the Presentation and Research Report assessments only. The paper you select must be directly relevant to Knowledge Management, Knowledge Transfer, Knowledge Modelling or Knowledge Engineering topics. The paper can be from any academic conference or other relevant Journal or online sources such as Google Scholar, Academic department repositories etc. All students must select a different paper, thus the paper must be approved by your lecturer or tutor before proceeding. In case two students are wanting to present on the same paper, the first who emails the lecturer or tutor with their choice will be allocated that paper.

Q.3) Presentation and Participation – 5% (Weeks 9-12)

For this component group will be required to do a 5-10 minutes presentation on an academic paper based on Knowledge Management, Knowledge Transfer, Knowledge Modelling or Knowledge Engineering.

A grade of 5% of the Units mark will be awarded for the group presentation. Prepare a PowerPoint slide presentation for your presentation. The group presentations must be recorded (audio and video) and should be uploaded in the respective link on Moodle.

Q.4) Research Report – 15% (Due Week 12)

For this component you will prepare a report or critique on the paper you chose from the Presentation and Participation component above. Your report should be limited to approx. 1500 words (not including references).

Your Report Must include:

Title Page: The title of the assessment, the name of the paper you are reviewing and its authors, and your name and student ID.

Introduction: A statement of the purpose for your report and a brief outline of how you will discuss the selected article (one or two paragraphs). Make sure to identify the article being reviewed.

Body of Report: Describe the intention and content of the article. If it is a research report, discuss the research method (survey, case study, observation, experiment, or other method) and findings. Comment on problems or issues highlighted by the authors. Discuss the conclusions of the article and how they are relevant to what you are studying this semester.

Conclusion: A summary of the points you have made in the body of the paper. The conclusion should not introduce any ‘new’ material that was not discussed in the body of the paper. (One or two paragraphs)

References: A list of sources used in your text. They should be listed alphabetically by (first) author’s family name. Follow the IEEE style. The footer must include your name, student ID, and page number.
