Ending Domestic Violence
Family violence or domestic violence has been considered as persuasive in the global reach. According to the reports of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (2011), it is the issue from family or domestic violence that have hindered the physical, emotional, financial, social, and community lifestyle and wellbeing of the victimized people, their family, and communities. As a Social Worker, promoting and initiating the social practices to reduce or eradicate issues of family violence is important. The report detailed is one such reflective summary that describes the inspiration to badge’s creation for creating awareness and assisting the communities and people from family violence.
Identification and exploration of the class content, and creating violence prevention badge
I have been learning and grasping the good aspects of social work and services, which helped me understand different perspectives of violence and prevention. It has educated me about different types of violence domestically, their impacts, need for resolution, and the effective strategies to do so. From the content that I studied in the class, the consideration of family violence as a public health issue has raised my exploration to the social work. Moreover, supported by AASW’s (2015) report, the social workers’ play vital role in enhancing such victims’ social and emotional conditioning by effective analysis of the violence, their interventions, and assistance.
Further, I had been perplexed to understand the competent tactics that can serve health, wellbeing, and prevention of violence among people and communities. An indirect yet direct approach to prevention of violence that I found during the class content is creation of a badge that can attempt to promote social service and also in serving assistance to the victims. Thus, the class content supported by my zeal and enthusiasm towards social working has generated the identification and exploration the class content into societal practicality. Further, post the identification and exploration of the class content, I finally settled to creation of badge for creating awareness among the victims, people, and communities in the easiest and common way. The content from the class that inspired me to make a badge is the the upstream and downstream perspectives.
Impacts, reflections, and thoughts
The class content that helped me in making a decision of badge creation has impacted me well from the social, emotional, and personal aspects. The class content has helped me understand the social work practices and their need in the community. This impacted me in understanding that there must be different strategies and practices that can help in prevention of family violence well. From the insights I developed out of my class content, I analyzed that badge creation, as one such strategy, can impact in amplifying the social work and assistances among people by just watching it.
From a personal experience, I once went to a childcare organization for some charity event been scheduled. I was asked to meet any event organizer/member directly, which was difficult to search out. The badges used by the childcare members, highlighted with two ribbons at the bottom and with a punchline ‘Baby Helper’ clearly helped me in identifying the members. Hence, from a personal reflection, I think having or creating a badge can give positive yields in attracting people and educating them about the social services we provide.
The strategies been drawn to promote the badge creation shows that the content has impacted very positively on me. Moreover, I think it has also provoked my thoughts on different ways and areas to practically implement these content attributes for wellness. I think creating and using a badge can not only aware people or viewers about the services, but it can also put great first impression on the viewers. Additionally, I think badges are a kind of identity provider to such services and works. Thus, the badge can impact on development of brand identity as well.
Badge’s use in practice: setting
The badge, in my opinion, must be worn with a proper vision of major keywords such as ‘prevent violence’, ‘social service’, and so on. The badge must also reveal the logo of the social work organization in order to give a relevant lead to the viewers. I imagine the badge must be worn near chest-pocket area so that it is easily visible and observable among the pool of people. Moreover, the color, font, and design of the badge must be standard enough to provide an ease of distance-reading and understanding (Hsu, 2019). However, if a badge is created larger in size, it could also assist in on-spot brief depiction of different acts of violence and their resolution practices.
To take the badge in practice, as a social worker, I think opting the events, fairs, campaigns, etc. that accounts to lot of people altogether can be a potential place for its wear. I have also heard that the schools, universities, and other such institutes do involve in certain activities like campaigns and shows to promote and enhance the social wellness among people of all kinds. In my reflective opinion, utilizing such setting can help as a conversation starter, which can be potential platform for me to explain about and recommend resolutions of family violence among public (Humphreys, Healey, & Mandel, 2018).
Conclusion
Family violence has become a topic of concern in almost all corners of the globe. Looking at the rising cases of violence at family or domestic level, the need to bring up social work and services is vital. As a social worker, the insights learnt from the class content has helped me deeply understand the types of family violence, the need or importance for its prevention, and suitable strategies to prevent the violent acts. Creating the badge has helped as a bridge between a social worker and client or group, leading to discussion of family violence. In closure, the creation of badge for social welfare and work, in reference to the class content learnt, has been an effective tool for prevention and eradication of family violence.
